Discussion Text

Discussion is a text which present a problematic discourse. This problem will be discussed from different viewpoints. The purpose of the discussion test is to consider a problem or issue from many points of view to assist in gaining a more complete understanding of it, so that decision can be made or a solution devised. In its written form the discussion text often forms a part of other more complex genrex, such as an investigation or scientific report. It often occurs after some initial research, in which case it would normally include a reference list. It may also include explanations and descriptions.

The basic generic structure of the discussion text consists of four parts:

1. Title: A title is included only if the discussion does not form part of a more 

    complex genre.

2. Introduction/Issue: The issue or problem of interest is introduced or discussed.

3. Arguments for and against of variety of views: List of supporting points;

    presenting the point in supporting the presented issue. It also consists of

    list of contrastive point; presenting other points which disagree to the

    supporting point.

4. Conclusion: The discussion usually ends with a summing up which may

    include a decision or recommendation.

Language Features of Discussion text are as follows:

@ Using thinking verb; feel, hope, believe, etc

@ Using additive, contrastive, and casual connection; similarly, on the hand,

    however, etc

@ Using modalities; must, should, could, may, etc

@ Using adverbial of manner; deliberately, hopefully, etc

Discussion Text About Internet (SMAN 1 Katapang)

Internet is network wich connect one computer to the other computer. The internet is very important to our life to access the information all over the world.A lot of people today use internet for their work. Almost all people have an internet service in their home and many people use internet through the mobile phone too. From the internet, we can share anything like mages or videos and other things to people over the world.Internet has some positive effect. From the internet we can know what happen in the world, we can meet with our old friend from facebook, twitter, yahoo messenger, etc in everywhere. Some people think that communicating with this way is cheaper than communicating by telephone. Beside that, we can have a very much reference to study, writing story, work, etc.                           

But Internet also can be bad for us. Many childrens under age sometimes see pornography site and they parents don’t know that. There so many people lose because they friend on internet. And then, based on the information of one of the newspaper in bogor a woman has died because she changed her relationship status from merried become single. So, her husband feel so angry and kill her. Another disadvantages of internet are many people will know what we are doing it everyday. This can be used by people who are not responsible to do no good to us. Beside thar, the internet also can cause addiction and lost track of time.Anyway, Internet does have a wide range of functions but also have a variety of bad things. So use the internet as needed and still keep your privacy to obey the ethics of internet use.

Giving The Children Homework

       There are a lot of discussion as to whether children should be given homework or not. Is it enough for children having time to study at school or needing additional time in home for study after school time?

       Some people claim that children do enough work in school already. They also argue that children have their hobbies which they want to do after school, such as sport or music. A further point they make is that a lot of homeworks are pointless and does not help the children learn at all.

       However, there are also strong arguments against this point of view. Parents and teachers argue that it is important to find out whether children can work on their own without the support from the teacher. They say that the evening is a good time for children to sit down and think about what they have learned in school.

       Furthermore they claim that the school day is too short to get anything done. It makes sense to send home tasks like independent reading or further writing task which do not need the teacher support.

       I think, on balance, that some homework is good idea but that should only given at the weekend when children have more time.
